Nido instructed CBP to design and specify two specific catering outlets for the student accommodation at West Hampstead. The brief was to provide a flexible self-contained kitchen and coffee shop style outlet in the ground floor foyer, which could provide a range of mixed snacks and light meals. The design had to be flexible enough to transform the food service area, into a social area outside the normal catering hours. This required the service equipment to be easily moved, allowing it to be stored within the kitchen space or blend in to become part of the furniture in the foyer.

The second area was to provide a separate bar and food service point to be integrated into a combined reception area at first floor level. The food service area was required to blend in with the space, so that it did not dominate the area outside normal catering service times. The space had to make flexible use of the staff available, allowing them to operate the reception, bar and food counter. The same menu was to be offered at first floor, and was to be serviced by the production kitchen at ground floor level.
